I got it after I read a great review by a friend, but reading real stories from 20th century China is usually quite depressing, so maybe I just wasn't ready. This book is very well-written and creative. This book is a delightful, poetic, and informative read about all there is in the Universe. While not an area I ever want to study fully it's good to go and read about occasionally. In this entertaining and enjoyable book, Trotta recounts our knowledge of the cosmos with only the most 700-odd used words in the English dictionary. Many terrible things happened to Anhua, and to the Ch To the Edge of the Sky is an autobiographical account of Anhua Gao, born into a family well up the Chinese Communist Party ladder and tracks her happy childhood with her family, her downfall after her parents death though the tumultuous times of the Great Leap Forward, The Cultural Revolution and the Tienanmen Square Massacre, and finally her escape from China in 1994 to the glorious land on the edge of the sky. But are we getting any closer to understanding essential components of its true nature, dark matter and dark energy, which dominate by far over the visible, familiar matter? This book is a must-read for anyone interested in learning about our universe, from here to the Edge of the Sky and beyond. In particular, she is helped by a senior judge, who could have so easily have turned his back but instead saves her life, and most probably that of her young daughter. What an incredible project by Trotta, engaging, poetic, and accessible.

But as you continue to read, and the ideas become clearer, you find yourself understanding physics, and especially astrophysics, in a new way. With rare candor and true learning, Roberto Trotta takes us on an intimate adventure in search of possible answers, as he charts the story of our universe from a tiny fraction of a second after the Big Bang to the present - while conveying at the same time the very human, at once exhilarating and humbling experience of this search. For the first time, I was able to see how the communist regime was able to develop and thrive. Nevertheless, the book will make an interesting read for many people not wanting to read something too technical. Each of them is clearly much more than meets the eye.
I especially liked the Dublin setting as it brought back memories of my visits there. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. Anhua's takes of family, live and hardship give an insight into the real world behind the bamboo curtain. How can they obtain away from the mob boss's grasp? This book will appeal to any adult who as eight year child looked up to the stars and wondered about the universe. He couldn't have been more wrong. I therefore applaud this attempt to describe the current state of cosmology in the most stripped-down language possible.
